This is how light coming from sun affects colors in Simutrans. The model box has one uniform color, grey. The amount of light falling on its different sides changes this color! The sun is 60° to the south - mostly upwards - and roof receives most light per area unit so it is the lightest part. Next is front, turned to south - smaller light/area ratio, but still faces the sun and receives direct light. The last visible side, often biggest, is completely parallel to rays from sun and gets only ambient light.
